When choosing a tennis racket for your child, the length of the tennis racket is one of the most important things to consider. Giving a child a racket that is too big or heavy can strain their developing body and hinder their improvement.
Typically, the younger the child the smaller the racket. Beginner tennis should start off with a trainer tennis ball (Red Ball). This ball is slightly larger, doesn’t travel as far, and doesn’t bounce as high. This helps learning the game of tennis much easier.
Red Tennis Ball
17 inch Racket - recommended height - under 3’6’’
19 inch Racket - recommended height - 3’6’’ - 3’11’’
21 inch Racket - recommended height - 4’0’’ - 4’4’’
23 inch Racket - recommended height - 4’5’’ - 4’11’’
25 inch Racket - recommended height - 5’0’’ - 5’4’’
If your child is progressing to becoming a competitive junior or is 10 years old or older, you most likely should consider rackets that are made out of Graphite. These rackets will be more expensive but they will help your child play better.
